Beste Filme 2016

10. ZOOMANIA - Byron Howard, Rich Moore- like most good animation it has a great story (though I haven't seen 'Pets' yet).

9.  WIENER DOG – Not the best Todd Solondz movie, but, hey - it's a Todd Solondz movie!

8. TSCHICK – Fatih Akin got it right again this time.

7. FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS – Stephen Frears – Nice comedy. And great to see Meryl Streep get upstaged by super funny Simon Helberg!

6. DIE MITTE DER WELT – Jakob M. Erwa – A genre of its own: a romantic-gay-teenie-lovestory-family-mystery-drama-thriller.

5. A BIGGER SPLASH – Luca Guadagigno. WithTilda Swinton and gorgeous Mathias Schoenaerts, my favorite actor 2016.

4. WILD  - Nicolette Krebitz – Weird, intense and very daring.

3. TONI ERDMANN – Maren Ade -  of course! It's one of three German films by female directors on my list – a new wave?

2. VOR DER MORGENRÖTE  - Maria Schrader – It's historical theme is very relevant to the  current political situation - while the final scene made me cry.

1. AMERICAN HONEY – Andrea Arnold proves that a road movie doesn't need graphic violence to be exciting.

Biggest disappointment: PATERSON- Jim Jarmush - I love to hate this film that all critics seem to love. But without charismatic Adam Driver this movie would be completely boring crap. It also has one of the most annoying female characters in recent film history: Paterson's wife is a dreadful hipster incarnation of a 1950's housewife.
